Mark Lloyd appointed as Executive Director
We are pleased to announce that Mark Lloyd CBE will be joining IMPOWER as an Executive Director later this month
In an awards ceremony of over 1,000 attendees, IMPOWER projects and team members were shortlisted for four Management Consultancies Association (MCA) awards and won the ‘Performance Improvement in the Public Sector’ award for their work with Lincolnshire County Council.
Through the award, IMPOWER was recognised for helping one of the country’s largest acute hospital trusts kickstart a culture shift in patient assessments by implementing an effective model for discharge and flow. IMPOWER consultants demonstrated their ability to work in a challenging and ever-changing environment with frontline staff to co-produce new ways of working.
“For over 25 years, the prestigious MCA awards have demonstrated the value of consulting and the impact consulting has on our society,” said Sean Hanson, CEO, IMPOWER. “To win an award for improving performance in the public sector is a tremendous honour, and shows our commitment to co-production and delivering better outcomes that cost less.”
Previously, many Lincolnshire patients were staying in acute hospital beds unnecessarily. IMPOWER helped put systems in place for a consistent and timely approach to assessing whether they can be safely discharged. It has significantly increased discharge rates, relieved some of the pressure on wards, and generated substantial cost savings while identifying further opportunities for efficiency. Over time, more patients will be discharged to receive care and support in the most appropriate setting rather than face lengthy hospital stays.
“Whereas previously changes haven’t stuck, the intensive support IMPOWER provided in the frontline has resulted in improvements being embedded,” said Nikki Pownall, System Flow Director, Lincolnshire. “When I walked around the wards in January, I found so much of the positive work was continuing even though their consultants had moved away from those areas. The fingerprints of IMPOWER are all over these successful improvements.”
Michael Wyatt, Senior Manager, was also highly commended by the MCA for the ‘Young Consultant of the Year’ award category for demonstrating excellent leadership skills on busy hospital wards while effectively managing relationships with clients and their stakeholders.
