Celebrating local gov success – LGC Awards 2022

by | Jul 22, 2022 | Adult social care, Health and NHS improvements | 0 comments

‘The backbone of society’. ‘Protecting the most vulnerable’. ‘Getting things done’. These are just a few of the accolades for local government from this week’s Local Government Chronicle Awards 2022.

The last year has been like no other. From ever looming adult social care reforms; to the constant media attention on where provision for vulnerable children has fallen short; to settling refugees from Afghanistan and Ukraine; to supporting local communities and businesses with the unravelling fallout of Covid-19 and Brexit – the list goes on.

On Wednesday, it was beyond inspiring to see and hear the achievements of all nominees across the 22 award categories. It was powerful to see innovative examples of how local government is stepping up to the climate emergency – particularly following a record-breaking heatwave.

We were particularly pleased that East Riding of Yorkshire Council was recognised for ‘Health and Social Care Project of the Year’. And a huge congratulations to Barry Quirk for winning the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ to recognise his outstanding dedication to local government.

A special congratulations goes to colleagues at Manchester City Council, for their hugely deserved award for the competitive category of ‘Council of the Year’. The judging panel noted their relentless focus on securing better outcomes, co-production in service design and delivery – to name but a few of the characteristics that earned Manchester Council of the Year.

At IMPOWER, we believe that real impact happens on the frontline of local government and health, and that better outcomes cost less. We are proud to have played a part in Manchester’s journey, and the journeys of so many others who were nominated for – and won – awards this year.

The LGC Awards provided much-deserved recognition of the extraordinary work going on in local government, which we are so passionate about at IMPOWER. If you would like to find out more about the work we do at IMPOWER, please get in touch.
